There is a strong foundation behind the perfect hot dog, and Gary Zemola is no stranger to this notion. In fact, his expertise in fine cuisine derived from the Culinary Institute of America, and later displayed in a top-quality South Norwalk Italian restaurant, is evident in his inflexible dedication to preparing and serving hot dogs.

Along with partner John Pellegrino, Zemola first started Super Duper Weenie in 1992 as a truck that traveled all around Fairfield, and later stationed off of exit 24 on Interstate 95, fulfilling the appetites of many. Zemola and Pellegrino experienced great success with the mobile eatery, and in April 2000 found a secure spot that Super Duper Weenie could call home. Charming and inviting, the only thing that changed about Super Duper Weenie is the fact that it no longer moves.

“No diet soda” was the rule when Zemola started his adventure. He felt that Super Duper Weenie was an old-fashioned place to eat; it was sort of reflective of the 30’s and 40’s, and diet soda wasn’t an option then, so why not keep things as is? The hot dogs are prepared nearby, and are an incomprehensibly delicious combination of choice cut beef and pork, naturally cased, and topped off with a hint of smoke. Once you have decided you want a hot dog, it is your choice how you dress it. From a plain ol’ weenie in a bun to a full blown masterpiece of toppings, your options are limitless. But why spend an hour deciding amongst a plethora of toppings and condiments when you can call a specifically prepared weenie right off of the menu?

The New Englander, New Yorker, Chicagoan, Californian, Dixie, and Cincinnatian are all regional style weenies, each individual in their own right. However different each hot dog, they are all smothered with Super Duper Weenie homemade condiments. Chili, sauerkraut, cole slaw, red onion sauce, and hot or sweet relish are just a few choices from their in-house delights. If a hot dog is not on the top of your list, just shift your eyes to the specialty sandwich side of the menu. Burger, chicken, tuna, and grilled cheese sandwiches are sure to spark and satisfy your appetite. The Mighty-Ity sausage and peppers on a port roll is a definite crowd pleaser, but if an award winner is what you are looking for then the Phairfield Cheese Steak sandwich is your best bet. This hot menu item was voted the best steak and cheese in the Best of Connecticut 2002.

Keeping things fresh is crucial. There is no such thing as frozen fries at Super Duper Weenie. Potatoes are grown from a local farm specifically for this special eatery. Once selected, the potatoes are sliced and made-to-order right before patrons’ very eyes. If the never-ending selections have not lured you in, perhaps Zemola and Pellegrino’s dedication to serving only the best have. Freshness is an uncompromising quality at Super Duper Weenie, and the guys say it best themselves, “ We can’t wait for you to come by for your first or hundredth time to taste the difference that Super Duper makes, a difference that is fresh!”

Over a century later, Louis’ Lunch continues to feed customers just as they always have. The vertical grills used to cook the burgers in 1900 have not changed. Neither has the succulent flavor of fresh beef topped by a sliver of aromatic onion; garnished solely by a slice of tomato or cheese.

When threatened by commercial demolition in 1975, Louis’ Lunch supporters arose to assist in its reconstruction. Thousands of bricks were sent from all over the world to help establish the Crown Street location where Louis’ Lunch now stands. Louis’ great grandson Ken offers a “tour of the walls,” to special visitors, proudly pointing out the significance of each individual brick.

Louis’ Lunch is conveniently open to accommodate lunch hour diners and late night cravings. Don’t be turned away by the long lines at Louis’, the experience is well worth the wait. While waiting, take the opportunity to appreciate the historic atmosphere that lies within the walls of Louis’.

Although small in space and capacity, Louis’ Lunch is large in tradition, taste, and dining history. Swing by and visit Ken Lassen and the rest of the Louis’ Lunch crew to experience a Louis’ burger for yourself.

No one human is the same, therefore, no one garment is to fit an individual as precisely as it would another. And when in search of an item of clothing that may fit as some may say, “like a glove,” the sartorial brilliance of an expert tailor is ever-so-necessary.

There are three components when shopping for a suit or garment, perfection, convenience, and complacency. Determining which of these components will best compliment your shopping need is the most difficult part. Amongst there components, the that requires the most time, attention, and precision, is that of “custom-made” garments. Just as every artists’ masterpiece begins with a canvas, so does the work of art prepared by a master tailor.

The inside of a suit is formed from a canvas, and the quality of that canvas is determined by its material and its length. Though a half canvas is dramatically reduced in price, and serves as a strong foundation for an ideal suit jacket, it is a full canvas that will better suit one’s body. The full canvas takes the individual’s shape, and is enhanced with every wear. The expression of a garment is where the tailoring art is found, and the expression of a suit is in its jacket. A master tailor can create an illusion based on the patterns and shapes of the human body.

David D’Addario, Chairman and CEO of D’Addario Industries, whose aluminum company is the third largest provider of can sheet aluminum in the country, has been a faithful patron and admirer of Mansukhani’s work for over a decade. According to D’Addario, “Naresh offers superb quality, and outstanding attention to detail; down the button holes.” D’Addario’s patronage to Fairfield Clothier is maintained due to his fondness of the stores manageability, fair prices, and large selection of quality materials and outstanding designs. “I happen to love beautiful things, whether it be cars, a sunny day, or clothes,” adds D’Addario, who is a collector of stunning things. “Naresh seduces me with fabrics.” Humbled that a connoisseur of style would be an admirer of his work, Mansukhani’s level of attention and precision is evident in all that he prepares.

The second component of tailoring is “made-to-measure” garments. The concept of this component is to provide patrons with a foundation that can be altered as accurately as possible, while preserving time and saving money. Though in this case, the canvas is not selected and prepared particularly for an individual, a master tailor can do the necessary sartorial alterations to convert a garment into a near perfect fit. Once altered, a made to measure suit is completed with complimentary trimmings. Select and exquisite ties, handkerchiefs, and cuff links intensify the beauty of a suit. Chris Ackley, Fire Chief of the Westport Fire Department, has been a patron of Fairfield Clothiers for nearly nine years. “I’m a white shirt, black pants kind of guy,” Ackley describes himself. “I didn’t trust Naresh’s taste at first, and he once told me to trust him, I did, and now everyone is complimentary of what I wear.”

The last component of tailoring is “off-the-peg.” Perhaps the most cost efficient of the three components, though it may not be the most flattering. A bittersweet experience, “off-the-peg” shopping may very well save an individual quite a bit of money, yet they are not as likely to come across a garment that fits as though it were made for them. “The garment will only be as good as the person who measured you,” says Mansukhani. If the suit was not measured precisely for an individual, the outcome may not be as gratifying once dressed.

According to popular saying, “Eat what you like, and wear what others like.” Ultimately, the most outstanding aspect is appearance. A spectator or a tailor would know what looks finest on an individual, for they are the ones who examine, and determine what suits another most excellent. “Most business is done on sexual charisma,” explained Mansukhani. “Visual presentation is an important factor, if you like the way someone looks; it is easier to work with them.” With that being said, why not look your best?
